Get the official template from your printer
The calculator above returns Amazon KDP dimensions only, because spine width and bleed are different at every printer. If you are publishing with IngramSpark, Barnes & Noble Press or Lulu, download the template from them directly, using the official generators below. Amazon's own generator is here too, if you would rather work from their file than ours.
Publishing on IngramSpark or Barnes & Noble Press? Each printer works the spine out from its own paper stocks, so start with the official generators above, then check the template against the IngramSpark cover template guide, which gathers every specification Ingram and B&N publish: bleed, safe areas, spine rules and case laminate dimensions.

Go To Lulu →Why correct cover dimensions matter
A KDP cover that is even a few millimetres off gets rejected at upload. The most common error is the spine: its width depends on your page count and paper type, and it changes every time you edit the manuscript. Bleed adds a safety margin on all four sides so nothing important is trimmed away.
What this calculator does
Choose your binding, trim size, page count and paper type. The calculator returns your full cover width and height, exact spine width, and the bleed KDP requires for paperback and hardcover. It does not cover other printers, because their spine and bleed rules are not the same as KDP's.
How to use the calculator
- Choose your binding type, paperback or hardcover, and your trim size.
- Enter your final page count.
- Select your interior type and paper.
- Read the full cover dimensions and apply them in your design file.
Pro tips
- Always include bleed. KDP wants 0.125 inch on every side of a paperback cover.
- Round the spine width to KDP's stated precision, then recheck after any edit.
- If the math is not your thing, let a professional handle formatting so the file passes review the first time.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I get an official KDP book cover template?
You can get an official, accurate KDP book cover template directly from Amazon at kdp.amazon.com/cover-calculator. Enter your trim size, page count, and paper type to generate exact dimensions.
How do I calculate spine width for KDP paperback?
KDP calculates spine width using your page count multiplied by the paper stock thickness (e.g., 0.002252 inches per page for white paper). Use the official KDP Cover Calculator for precise values.
Does this calculator work for IngramSpark, Barnes & Noble or Lulu?
No. It returns Amazon KDP dimensions only. Spine width and bleed differ from printer to printer, so a KDP number applied elsewhere is a guess. For IngramSpark, Barnes & Noble Press or Lulu, download the template from that printer directly, using the official generators listed above.
What is the bleed requirement for IngramSpark covers?
IngramSpark asks for 0.125 inches of bleed on all four sides of a paperback cover, and a 0.625 inch wrap on case laminate hardcover files. Those are IngramSpark's own numbers, so use their official Cover Template Generator for your trim size rather than a KDP figure.
